La Tiger Dixie Band è una delle poche formazioni a livello internazionale dedicate sistematicamente al recupero del jazz degli “anni ruggenti”, reinterpretandolo con un approccio originale e attuale.
Le atmosfere tipiche del New Orleans e del Chicago Style, del Charleston e del Ragtime sono rispettate con fedeltà sia nel timbro che nello spirito, grazie anche all’uso di strumenti originali dell’epoca. Tuttavia, il sound complessivo è arricchito dalle esperienze musicali più moderne dei singoli membri, che si intrecciano a diversi livelli dell’esecuzione, dall’arrangiamento all’improvvisazione.
Questo fa sì che il repertorio del gruppo, pur rimanendo ancorato alla tradizione, non si limiti a un’operazione revivalistica, ma diventi espressione viva e dinamica di un linguaggio che non è invecchiato più dello Swing, del Bebop o del ricchissimo repertorio degli standard jazz.
Alla base dei progetti della Tiger Dixie Band c’è la convinzione che la musica di Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Bix Beiderbecke e degli altri giganti del jazz delle origini e del primo dopoguerra abbia la stessa dignità delle altre correnti jazzistiche. Per questo, può essere ancora oggi esplorata e riproposta senza cadere in sterili operazioni di ripristino conservativo.

The Tiger Dixie Band is one of the few international bands that systematically dedicates itself to reviving the jazz of the “Roaring Twenties,” presenting it with an original and contemporary interpretative approach.
The typical atmospheres of New Orleans and Chicago Style, Charleston, and Ragtime are faithfully respected in both tone and spirit, also thanks to the use of some original instruments from the era. However, the overall sound is filtered through the more modern musical experiences of the individual members of the Tiger Dixie Band, blending at various levels of performance, from arrangement to improvisation.
This ensures that the band’s repertoire, even when moving within traditional territory, does not result in a mere revivalist product but rather expresses the desire to highlight how this musical genre has not aged any more than Swing, Bebop, or the timeless body of jazz standards.
At the core of the Tiger Dixie Band’s various projects lies the idea that the music of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Bix Beiderbecke, and other giants of early 20th-century jazz and the post-war period holds the same nobility as other jazz currents and can be further explored and reinterpreted today without falling into tedious acts of conservative restoration.
