La Tiger Dixie Band è una delle poche band a livello internazionale, che si dedica sistematicamente al recupero del Jazz degli “anni ruggenti”, proponendolo con un approccio interpretativo originale ed attuale.
Le atmosfere tipiche del New Orleans e del Chicago Style, del Charleston e del Ragtime, sono filologicamente rispettate nel timbro e nello spirito, anche per via dell’utilizzo di alcuni strumenti originali dell’epoca. Il sound generale è però filtrato attraverso le esperienze musicali più moderne dei singoli membri della Tiger Dixie Band, che si fondono sui vari piani dell’esecuzione, dall’arrangiamento all’improvvisazione.
Ciò fa sì che il repertorio del gruppo, anche quando questi si muove nel territorio tradizionale, non risulti un prodotto di carattere revivalistico, ma piuttosto espressione della volontà di rendere evidente quanto questo genere musicale non sia invecchiato più dello Swing, del Bebop o dell’inossidabile “corpo” degli standards. Alla base dei vari progetti della Tiger Dixie Band vi è quindi l’idea che la musica di Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Bix Beiderbecke e degli altri giganti degli albori del 20° secolo e del primo dopoguerra, ha pari nobiltà delle altre correnti jazzistiche e può essere ulteriormente sviscerata e riproposta ai nostri giorni senza ricadere in stucchevoli operazioni di ripristino conservativo.
The Tiger Dixie Band is one of the few international bands that systematically dedicates itself to reviving the jazz of the “Roaring Twenties,” presenting it with an original and contemporary interpretative approach.
The typical atmospheres of New Orleans and Chicago Style, Charleston, and Ragtime are faithfully respected in both tone and spirit, also thanks to the use of some original instruments from the era. However, the overall sound is filtered through the more modern musical experiences of the individual members of the Tiger Dixie Band, blending at various levels of performance, from arrangement to improvisation.
This ensures that the band’s repertoire, even when moving within traditional territory, does not result in a mere revivalist product but rather expresses the desire to highlight how this musical genre has not aged any more than Swing, Bebop, or the timeless body of jazz standards.
At the core of the Tiger Dixie Band’s various projects lies the idea that the music of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Bix Beiderbecke, and other giants of early 20th-century jazz and the post-war period holds the same nobility as other jazz currents and can be further explored and reinterpreted today without falling into tedious acts of conservative restoration.
